Named by Philadelphia Magazine as one of the Top Docs in the Delaware Valley in 2002, Guy W. Fried, MD, is an Attending Physician at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
At Philadelphias Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, Dr. Fried serves as Attending Physician, as well as Medical Director of Outpatient Services, of the Incontinence Program, and the Respiratory Care Program. Additionally, he chairs the Medical Record Forms Committee at Magee, is a physician for the Outpatient WorkFitness Program and an advisor for Utilization Review. From 1989 to 1999, Dr. Fried was an Attending Physician and member of the Rehabilitative Services Committee at Jefferson Hospitals Ford Road Campus in Philadelphia. During that period, he also served twice as Secretary, Vice President and President of the Medical Staff at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital.
Named Attending of the Year at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in 1998, Dr. Fried also received the Robert H. Condon Teaching Award presented for outstanding contributions to patient care and resident education by a faculty member. His teaching activities span a broad range of topics, specifically clinical neurophysiology, radiculopathies, neurogenic bladder management, the use of electrodiagnostics, and physical and occupational therapy for rehabilitating patients.
His research and subsequent presentations are concentrated on the treatment of urinary incontinence and muscular problems associated with spinal cord injured patients. More recently, Dr. Fried has been involved in the therapeutic aspects of botulinum toxins and how they improve spasticity, pain, and function in patients with quadriplegia.
He is a member of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a specialty in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a subspecialty in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. He also holds a subspecialty in Pain Management.
Among his professional societies, Dr. Fried lists the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
Over the years, Dr. Fried has published in such medical journals as the International Journal of Dermatology and the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His chapters cover spinal muscle atrophy, spinal cord injury and bladder recovery, low back pain, spinal cord injury medicine, medical nutritional and exercise therapy.
