Dr. Formal is Clinical Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University, receiving a Dean’s Citation for his contributions to education. He has been a member of Magee’s Medical staff since 1982.

Dr. Formal serves as Program Director at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Residency Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and also teaches future physicians as Co-Director for Medical Student Education in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Jefferson Medical College.

He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. Christopher S. Formal, MD, serves as Assistant Medical Director of Educational Programs at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. He is also on the Medical Staffs of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and on the Consulting Staff at Methodist Hospital.

He is a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists and serves as an examiner for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Formal’s professional society memberships include the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Association of Academic Physiatrists. He has lectured on various aspects of spinal cord injuries such as medical complications and rehabilitation, as well as ventilator management of patients and burns after spinal cord injury are several topics. He has also held courses on the etiology and treatment of pressure sores and rehabilitation of the trauma patient.

Dr. Formal was a Reviewer for the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and wrote critical reviews for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He has contributed to numerous papers, chapters and abstracts in the medical publications of Archives of Physical and Medical Rehabilitation and Internal Medicine, The Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine and the Journal of Neurotrauma Principles and Techniques of Spine Surgery.
